Accreditation Statement
This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the accreditation requirements and policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) through the joint providership of the American Society of Echocardiography and the National Board of Echocardiography. The American Society of Echocardiography is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
Accreditation and Designation
ASE is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide accredited continuing education for physicians.
ASE designates this enduring material activity for a maximum of 8 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™.
To claim all 8 CME credits, you must successfully complete all 48 questions.
In addition to offering CME credits, this activity has been developed and registered with ACCME to provide MOC and MOCA 2.0 credits in alignment with AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™.
Successful completion of this CME activity enables the participant to earn up to 8 MOC points in the American Board of Internal Medicine’s (ABIM) Maintenance of Certification (MOC) program, the American Board of Pediatrics (ABP) MOC program, and/or the American Board of Anesthesiology’s (ABA) Maintenance of Certification in Anesthesiology Program® or MOCA 2.0®. It is ASE’s responsibility to submit participant completion information to ACCME for the purpose of granting ABIM and ABP MOC points and/or ABA MOCA 2.0®.
Participants should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. Physicians will earn MOC and/or MOCA 2.0 points equivalent to the amount of CME credits claimed for the activity.
Satisfactory Completion
Learners must complete all 48 questions to receive a certificate of completion. Partial credit is not available. Upon successful completion, learners will receive an email and be directed via link to purchase CME credits for $15, complete a CME evaluation, and generate a printable certificate.

Description
The NBE Maintenance of Certification in Echocardiography (MOCE) Program is designed to support practicing echocardiographers in maintaining their board certification or testamur status while ensuring they stay current with evolving guidelines, imaging techniques, and best practices in cardiovascular ultrasound. This structured learning activity integrates evidence-based education, self-assessment, and case-based learning to reinforce essential echocardiographic skills and knowledge. Through participation in this program, learners will engage with high-yield content, including updated diagnostic criteria, advancements in imaging modalities, clinical applications of echocardiographic techniques, and integration of echocardiography in clinical care. The curriculum includes interactive modules, case-based assessments, and real-world applications, enabling participants to refine their diagnostic accuracy and clinical decision-making.
Educational Information
Target Audience
This program is essential for echocardiographers seeking structured, high-quality education that aligns with current standards and best practices in cardiovascular imaging. Participants will leave with enhanced clinical competency, improved diagnostic accuracy, and a renewed commitment to lifelong learning in echocardiography.
Physician Practice Gaps:
- Evolving Guidelines & Best Practices
- Many practitioners may not be fully up-to-date with the latest evidence-based guidelines and best practices in echocardiography.
- New imaging techniques and updated diagnostic criteria require continuous learning.
- Clinical Application & Decision-Making
- Physicians may struggle with integrating new echocardiographic findings into clinical decision-making.
- Interpretation variability can impact patient management and outcomes.
- Technology & Software Advancements
- Advancements in echocardiographic equipment, including AI-enhanced imaging, require ongoing education to maximize their diagnostic utility.
- Practitioners may lack training in optimizing machine settings for better image acquisition and interpretation.
- Quality & Accuracy in Interpretation
- Variability in image acquisition and interpretation among echocardiographers can lead to misdiagnoses or suboptimal patient management.
- A need for standardization and quality assurance exists to ensure accuracy and reproducibility in echocardiographic assessments.
- Practitioners at low volume centers require increased exposure to specialty procedures and uncommon diseases
- Maintenance of Certification & Lifelong Learning
- Professionals may find it challenging to keep up with the evolving certification requirements and ongoing competency expectations.
- A structured approach to continuing education is needed to meet certification and recertification standards effectively.
Learning Needs
- Knowledge-Based Learning Needs
- Update on guideline-based echocardiographic assessments for common cardiovascular diseases.
- Understanding the physics and technical aspects of echocardiographic modalities (TTE, TEE, 3D Echo, Strain Imaging, Contrast Echocardiography).
- Awareness of emerging technologies and their clinical applications.
- Skill-Based Learning Needs
- Enhancing proficiency in image acquisition, optimization, and interpretation.
- Improving competency in recognizing and diagnosing complex cases.
- Utilizing echocardiography for patient management and therapeutic decision-making.
- Performance-Based Learning Needs
- Ensuring accuracy in interpretation through case-based practice.
- Reducing variability among echocardiographers by applying standardized protocols.
- Enhancing the ability to integrate echocardiographic findings with clinical decision-making.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of the NBE MOCE Program with CME credits, participants will be able to:
- Apply updated ASE and ACC/AHA echocardiographic guidelines to clinical practice.
- Demonstrate improved accuracy in echocardiographic image acquisition and interpretation.
- Integrate echocardiographic findings into patient management strategies for various cardiovascular conditions.
- Analyze complex echocardiographic cases and apply structured approaches to improve diagnostic accuracy.
- Utilize new imaging technologies and advanced modalities effectively in daily practice.
- Enhance performance on board certification and maintenance of certification assessments.
